Avocado and smoked salmon saladアボカドとスモークサーモンのサラダ


In the 1960’s avocados started being imported to Japan. Well, they weren’t really known by people at that time. When I first tried them as a small child, they gave me a surprise! I couldn’t quite believe they were actually a fruit. Despite the past unfamiliarity, avocadoes have become really popular recently, you can easily find them on restaurant menus or at local vege shops.
I love avocados as they are so versatile in cooking styles and tastes: Japanese, Korean and western.
Although it is a high-calorie fruit with plenty of fat, you don’t have to worry about cholesterol. In fact, it’s full of vitamin E, linoleic acid, and oleic acid. So healthy!
There is one thing that I would like to warn you of though. When they aren’t ripe enough, they taste awful! You really want to keep them at room temperature (5-20 degrees) until they get nice and ripe. It’ll be worth it!

➡  Ingredients (for four people)

  • One avocado
  • One small to medium sized onion
  • 8-10 slices of smoked salmon
  • 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • Some lemon juice
  • Some peppercorns
  • Some salt
  • Some parsley

➡ Recipe

  1. Cut the avocado in half and get rid of the stone. Scoop out the avocado from the shell and cut it into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Cut the smoked salmon into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Slice the onion thinly. Rub it with salt and squeeze any excess water out.
  4. Put the avocados, the salmon (six slices only) and the onion in a bowl and mix them with mayonnaise, lemon juice and some peppercorns.
  5. Transfer 1) into the avocado shell and decorate with the rest of the salmon and some parsley.

💡 Tips

  1. You can use boiled prawns instead of smoked salmon.

  • It’s a bit of a high-calorie dish, but a very popular dish for Japanese children.
  • It’s not easy to cut avocados nicely. Some people use thread to cut them.

➡  材料 (約4人分)

  • アボカド:1個
  • たまねぎ:小~中のもの1個
  • スモークサーモン:8~10枚
  • マヨネーズ:大さじ4
  • レモン汁:適量
  • 粒胡椒:適量
  • 塩:適量
  • パセリ:適量

➡ 作り方

  1. アボカドを半分に切り種を取り、身をくりぬいて一口大に切る。
  2. スモークサーモンを一口大に切る。
  3. たまねぎを薄くスライスし、塩もみして水気をしっかり切る。
  4. 1.と2.(6枚分だけ)と3.をボールに入れ、マヨネーズ・レモン汁・つぶ胡椒と混ぜ合わせる。
  5. アボカドの皮を器にし、4.を盛り付け、スモークサーモンの残りとパセリを上に飾る。

💡 Tips

  1. スモークサーモンの代わりに、茹でた海老でもよいです。

  • 全体に、ちょっとカロリー高めですが、日本の子供に大人気。
  • アボカドを綺麗に切るのは難しいです。糸で切る人もいるそうです。
